Vermont Dairy Cows

Vermont has about 500 dairy farms. The number is sharply down from ten years ago when there were about 5,000 small farms. Now, in order to survive, a farmer must have a big operation .

This group of black and white Holsteins - bred for their prodigious milk production - are known as "Dry Cows" They've quit producing milk until they calve again.
