Manchester Center on Oct 13-15

Hi,
We're looking to make a trip up from central NJ to the Manchester area and stay at a cottage for a couple of days (Oct 13-15).
Any idea what the foliage will be like at that time? Would it be better to move to some other area to get a better blend of driving time + foliage viewing?
Also, could anyone recommend some routes to follow branching out of Manchester?
