The Red Sox won the World Series. If they do it again this year, we won't have to worry about global warming. Your first date would be good for the Stowe area and the second for Killington and south of there.

Stay tuned. I'll be posting some roads for that area early next week. If you aren't adverse to dirt roads, go into Montpelier, Vt. Head for our Capitol Building on State street and look for a Welcome center just north of the Capitol. Mike has made up some detailed maps of the area from a Jimmapco Atlas. Ask for the map of the Calais/Woodbury area. A lot of great roads up there. Make sure he marks out the Tebbetts road. That road goes under a barn. Be sure you stop at Bragg farm on route 14 for a maple cree-mee.

Thanks PWT for the info on the map at the welcome center in Montpelier. We will be there next Saturday and pick one up. I have been to that area but am not familiar with all the roads. Good information!

It's a kind of strange area. A couple of years ago the hamlet of Maple corners needed money to repair the community hall, so the "old geezers" up there put out a "naughty" calender call "the Men of maple Corners" and made a bundle. It didn't affect the foliage, however.

Hi there..just read the foliage updates and a bit of enthusiasm has risen....it is written that counties like Essex, Orleans and Caledonia are showing some mid colos....guess its part of north eastern kigdom....Shall we go by these suggestions copied below ?

"Major routes in this area are 2, 5, 5A, 102, 105 and 114, all of which should offer good color. Starting in St. Johnsbury, head north on Route 5 until you reach Route 114 beginning in Lyndonville. You can either continue north on 114 until you reach Norton, near the Canadian border, or at the Junction of Route 114 and Route 105, you can head east toward Bloomfield. Route 102 will then take you back to Route 2. Follow Route 2 west back to St. Johnsbury. Alternatively, you can follow Route 5 until it splits off into Route 5A in the town of West Burke. 5A offers some beautiful views near Lake Willoughby in Westmore. Another suggested drive is the Route 14 corridor north of Montpelier and Route 16 between Barton and Hardwick."

Somebody pls do help us decide..!!!! this is our first visit to vermont ........need ur guidance.....................

First of all don't take route US 5 north from St.Johnsbury. It's not scenic. I-91 north from St.Johnsbury is more scenic. Get off exit 23 and turn right. Drive through the village until you get to route 5A in West Burke. Drive route 5A north to the end and turn right onto route 105 east. Drive RT.105 until you get to the juhction of route 114 south. NOW you have a decision to make. If it's lunchtime and you're hungry, drive past route 114 south and go to Jennifer's restuarant in Island Pond. If you're not hungry turn right onto route 114 south and drive that to the end. You are now back to route US 5 in Lyndonville. You will see another road straight ahead. That is route 122 north. If you skipped lunch in Island Pond and are hungry now, turn left and drive through the village to the Miss Lyndonville Diner for lunch. go Back to route 122 north and drive that to the end at route 16. Turn left and drive route 16 to the end at route 15 in Hardwick. I'm not sure where you are staying, but if you turn left you will go to Danville and St.Johnsbury. If you turn right you will go to the traffic light at route 100 south in Morrisville. Colors should be peak up there this weekend.

Oh man, that will be a long day. For the northeast, I'd take I-93 north to the end at I-91 north in St.Johnsbury.(Franconia Notch in NH. should be real nice)Take I-91 north to exit 23 and turn right. Stop at the Miss Lyndonville Diner for a late breakfast/early lunch. Continue route US 5 north to the Junction of route 114 north. Drive route 114 north to the junction of route 105 west and turn left. Drive route 105 west to route 5A south. Drive route 5A south to the end at route US 5 south in West Burke and turn left Drive route US 5 south back to I-91 south and drive that to exit 19 for I-93 south back to home. An alternative woudl be to drive I-93 north to I-89 north in Concord New Hampshire and drive I-89 to Vermont and get off exit 1. Turn left and drive route US 4 past route 100 south in West Bridgewater to route 100 north in Mendon,VT. Drive route 100 north to I-89 south in Waterbury and head back home.(if you have time drive a mile past the I-89 intersection to Ben & Jerry's for an ice cream cone) This ride may not be quite peak but should be nice.

Just don't hit any Moose. They get irritable during mating season.
