Enfield - Glastonbury - Somers 10/25 - 10/28/18

I drove down to the Glastonbury area today to head into Meshomasic Forest. It's a Beech Forest with primarily yellow color in the fall. Foliage is near peak in the forest. On the way home I drove the side roads into Herbron/Andover/Coventry/Vernon/Ellington/Somers and back to Enfield. Foliage is past peak once you get above around 500' in elevation around Andover/Coventry.

Hi Loafer, thanks for the updates. There is still so much green here but the trees coming out are brilliant. The NW corner was mostly gone when we spent the day up there Monday. We hiked to the top of the tower at Haystack Mountain in Norfolk, looked around at the valley and saw a real mixed bag. Past peak, green and emerging color. We drove through many back roads in the NW hill towns and Litchfield and found mostly past peak and bare trees probably from the high winds. However, we did not hit the route 7 corridor from Canaan to Kent, so maybe that told a different story. We were running out of time so we came back to central CT and saw a lot of great color in my own area! Go figure.... The storm coming tomorrow is not a good thing for the foliage, but the green trees are still holding on. We'll see what happens next week. I'm afraid the green trees might just dry up and go brown and then deleaf!

I could kind of tell the foliage wasn't that great in SNE based on how quiet things became on this forum. Some more nice color today despite the abundance of clouds:

Tomorrow we are goung to the Poconos (Jim Thorpe area, Carbon county), where according to the reports, peak is right now.
However, today's storm will likely ruin most of it....

Thank you, we still have about 75% of our foliage of witch 25% is still green. I might follow the color along to the Connecticut Shoreline. I've done this every year, but I'm not sure if it's worth the trip this year. Hope you got the foliage color you're looking for. My sister lives in Milford and we traveled on Route 6 to the Grand Canyon Of Pennsylvania in October of 2015. We also did Amish Dutch foliage with a ride on the Strasburg Railroad during peak foliage, it was very nice.

Hi Loafer, thanks for the report. We are in peak here and the sugar maples are insane around Avon Mountain and Simsbury and Canton. The rain didn't do much damage! Many trees are glistening in their fall finest, I just can't believe how late it is! The color seemed to come out of nowhere! CT

Thanks! Route 6 is great, been there for a foliage trip in 2016, in early October. It was a bit early but still we found areas with great colors!
