Please recommend a scenic drive

I will be in Vermont from October 9-13 and will be staying at an inn in Waitsfield. Can anybody please recommend a scenic, beautiful foliage drive through the Mad River Valley area or north (Northeast Kingdom) that would take half a day or so to complete? A bonus would be a covered bridge, waterfalls, or a lake in passing. Thank you for your help.
