Driving Route: New York to Rutland

Hello,

I will leave from New York City on Saturday morning, Oct 11th, and stay 2 nights in Rutland return on Monday, Oct 13th. Can anyone suggest a driving router for scenic ride? I am thinking to take Route 7 on my way to Rutland. On returning to New York, take Route 4 to Woodstock and take South 91 to New York.

I don’t mind take a different route home. This is a family vacation, I think it will be nice to see the state of Vermont.

Can anyone suggest any place for visit?

Thanks.

Yap :D

I take it you are taking I-87 to the Albany area. I'd get off exit 7 above Albany and take route 7 east to Bennington,Vermont. The I would take the old route 7A north to route US 7 above Manchester,VT. The new route 7 from Bennington to Manchester is no big deal. Foliage is running a little late this year, so foliage around route US 4 should be good. You may find the best foliage northeast of Rutland. If the foliage looks real good from Manchester north to Rutland then you might want to do route 103 to I-91 in Bellows Falls. You can pick up route 103 off route US 7 south of Rutland. This is a nice ride. Your route US 4 trip is also very good. If you do go to Woodstock, take route 12 north about a mile to the Billings Farm Museum. It's worth the look.
