Is it still good to visit Jenne farm this weekend (Oct 18)

I plan to visit Woodstock regions at this weekend (Oct. 18). I don't know if there are still good foliage there, especially at the famous Jenne farm?

And I also plan to drive from Bennington to Brattleboro. Any route and attraction suggestions will be welcome and appreciated a lot!!

I did the Jenne Farm this past weekend, and the colors were incredible! Unless a lot has changed in the course of a week, I would imagine the color will still be there.

There were probably about a dozen photographers there that morning.... very possessive of their territory too! I was told more than once that we were forming a straight line! Everyone was crowded on the road this time also; previous visits, everyone has been lined up in the field.

I guess, as much as I would like my own photo of this location, that is exacly the reason I haven't been there. I don't want to jostle with other photogs. Especially jealous ones. With the other Vermont Photos I have taken, with the exception of Peacham, NO other photographers were around while I worked. At Peacham, two others were there -- both very nice and polite.

This is my first post and first picture here. I took this picture at Jenne farm yesterday. Last year when I was there it was in the clouds so I couldn't get a picture. The weather was much better this time. I had no trouble with anyone as there was only one other photographer with a tripod and DSLR and a small group of ladies with a P&S. I offered to take a picture of them with their camera so they all could be in it. They were happy about that.

Those are both beautiful shots of Jenne's farm. When I was there prior to the SOC reunion it was total down poor of rain. Best shot I got of Jenne's farm was the black lab setting on the front porch.

The two pictures are both very impressive!!

I compared the two pictures, and I found the foliage looks past peak now

I live in NJ, so I don't know if I should drive about 6 hours there to shoot this weekend? Any suggestions?

If not Jenne farm, only the southern VT, any nice farms or barns to visit?

Acturally, I visited Stowe this year from Oct. 3 to 6. Because the foliage this year is so amazing, I could not resist to visit VT again. But now, I don't know where to go and where to capture the beautiful VT foliage this weekend?

Thanks a lot in advance for any recommendations or suggestions.

I would guess that by that time, the "press" of the crowd was done. The best light, I am told, for that location is morning. I hear that when you arrive just before sunrise, you sometimes have a difficult time finding a spot to set up, because there are already so many photographers there. By 10, the sun is beginning to get pretty high and the light kind of harsh for the optimal shot. It wouldn't surprise me if folks were there before 7 and out between 8 and 9.

Personally, I've never been there. Not sure I ever will be. If I do I will do it when others aren't around... maybe a different season or a different angle.

There are so many beautiful farms and other scenic locations in Vermont and surrounding areas.. why spend 3-4 hours to get one shot? Or jostle with crowds of photographers?

Art is about finding your own expression and for me at least, capturing places that are less well known or in unique ways.

Seriously, Jenne is a Vermont icon, but there are plenty of other beautiful farms to be found all over the area. (This one was just over the border in far eastern NYS, though.)

I must say, though that I wholeheartedly agree with you. I have read that Jenne is the most photographed farm ever. I don't know whether that's true or not. But I have no desire to stand "in line" or jostle with other photographers for this one.

And, frankly, I don't "get" it. I remember going "so?" the first time I looked at it. I think Hillside Acres says "Vermont" in a way bigger way, as do Waits River Village, Peacham and East Corinth. And I have photographed all those locations at "the right time" of the day and been the Only photographer there.

I also agree that there is special magic in finding your own "iconic" photographic scene.
