How long does "peak" last?
We are going to be in W. Dover area next Tues - Friday (15th - 18th). Our innkeeper said that the area should hit peak by the weekend. The board says bennington is at peak now. How long does "peak" last? A week? Two? thanks!
Re: How long does "peak" last?
Hi,
Speaking as a local, peak is somewhat ephemeral. One side of a ridge may be blazing orange while the other side is still green or even grey because the leaves have fallen.
We have soft maples behind us that arre already beginning to lose leaveas and sugar maples that are just starting to really turn, and oaks ahta are stiv very green.
Vagaries of terrain and soil and species of trees all contribute to this. Generally speaking the first two to three weeks of October is the best time to come up here if the fall foliage is what you are looking for.
Also check with the locals. Find out what is really going on.
Important thing is to explore around a little, and enjoy yourself. we have 250 towns here in Vermont antd they all hhave their own character. We're the only state left without the "sprawl" which in itself is nice.

------------------
Aleks & Michiko Hunter
Old Town Farm Inn
665 Vt.
