Ok gang. My apologies. It is Hinton Hill Road as PWT first suggested! I came off of route 105 from Island Pond.

I think Hilton Head is in North Carolina!!!!

Glad to see the information on Hilton Hill Road. Have not been on it but will plan on going there this year. Sounds as though it would be a great place for good photographs.

Just to get the geography of "Hilton Head" right, it is in South Carolina and not North Carolina. Great place to visit, by the way. But, it is not Vermont!

The colors on I-91 northbound up through Shefield and into Barton are looking beautiful! I'm going to take a drive today around the Kingdom and search for the best places right now. This last week the colors are really starting to burst!

Today I drove through Derby and out past Lake Salem on 105 east to west Charleston and East Charleston. The colors are there, but rather muted. I expect them to burst into full swing next weekend. I continued east on 105 through Island Pond, Brighton and Bloomfield. Some brighter colors there. From there I went into Colebrook, NH, took a left onto route 3 north, followed that to Route 26 into Dixville Notch and into Errol NH. The colors there are gorgeous! Bright, colorful, and I would say Near Peak. It was beautiful!

The color on Sheffield Heights is amazing this year. Just got back from a trip over Four Square Road. For some reason the color appears a lot better at higher altitudes, whilst the majority of the NEK is somewhat muted...as if the foliage just fizzled.

Abby: My DeLorme map shows that Sheffield Heights Road starts about 6 miles south of Barton, parallel with 91. Sheffield Heights is about 6 miles (or just a mile after the road starts). Take 16 to 122. I would be surprised if you haven't already been there

I didn't find a Four Square Road, either

Route 122 (Sheffield Heights) ends at the junction of routes US 5 and 114 in Lyndonville. Great ride. Another nice ride is to take the Berry Road in Sheffield Village to Sutton. Great views up there. Do it soon. There are plans to put about 20 windmills up there.

There is a 5 mile Square Road and a 10 mile Square Road near Island Pond but I don't know of a 4 mile Square road. The colors did look muted because the high winds had flipped the leaves over. When that happens I try to drive into the wind because the top of the leaves will face downwind. Or drive the back roads in the forests where the trees are protected from the winds. The sun has a big effect on the brightness of the colors. Generally speaking, the best way to view foliage is facing into the sun because the light is reflected toward you. Second best is the sun on one side or the other. If the sun is behind you the light is reflected away from you.
