Thanks for your reply pwt54 and bm, but I really need your advice as to what is the bestway to experience the colorful show - to visit North Vermont this weekend and N hampshire the next or do central and S Vermont the next weekend as the North region would have past peak by then and N hampshire this weekend(I know this is off topic, still). If you were me, what would you have done considering this is my first(and perhaps last experience as we are moving abroad ) Please suggest the best route from New York city . The point is we have only this Sat and Sun and the next.We will do whatever you expert suggest. Thanks.

For this weekend I would look to Northeast VT and Northern New Hampshire. The Leafpeeper's code obliges me to admit that northern New hampshire has the best color right now. Northern Vt should be much better next weekend and central VT along route 100 should be good. If I was coming from out of state for a short visit, I would do it next weekend.

I was on a foliage trip yesterday (sept 28) through both NH and VT. The best colors I saw were along the Kanc (NH 112) from Conway to lincoln. most was at or near peak. abover 3500 ft or so the leaves were stripped. the best foliage appears to be at elevations around 2000-3500 feet. The valley floors I would estimate at peaking in about 7 days. THe Great north woods is at peak, and in spots fading. rt 26 through Dixville noth is great now. Littlton NH area is alos near peak on the north side of Franconia Notch. THese spots I would say would be fading the columbus day weekend. North Conway should be peaking in about 10-14 days. AS far as VT, The ST J area there is a lot of yellow and green mixed. There is more reds and orages towards wells river down rt. , but considerable green. Having gone to school in VT, my guess would be peak will be in the northeast kingdon in the next week, wells river about a week later, and white river south 2 weeks later. Hope this helps everyone!! Enjoy the foliage!

That was pretty much what I saw last Monday. It was a great trip.
