1- Where are the haloes visible?
2- It's true I have a tendency to overdo the Highlight side of the Shadow/Highlight command, but could the haloes be caused by oversharpening?

In that shot they are most noticable in the sky just above the ridgeline and around the leaves. It's definitely S/H and not sharpening.
When you use S/H for skies be sure to increase the radius... use something like 300 or 400. That will remove the halos. --c
