Route 100 vs. Route 30?

Hi everyone,

This weekend my girlfriend and I are heading up. We're going to spend Friday in northern Vermont, then on Saturday we're going to head south from Burlington to the Berkshires.

I've done this on both Route 100 and Route 30 in the past and loved them both, but I was wondering if anyone could give me any up-to-date information on which route has the best color, or which route should have the best by Saturday. (Either way, we'll probably cut over to 30 south of Bomoseen, since that's my favorite part. So I'm really just asking about the stretch of Route 100 between Waterbury and Killington.)

Also, how are the gap roads? Even if they're past peak at the tip tops, are they mostly holding up? Is Texas Falls still colorful?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I went to Hancock on Monday and the colors between Granville Gulf and Hancock on route 100 was not good. Route 125 was good from Ripton to the Texas Falls Road. Foliage was so-so at Texas falls. Foliage from Warren and north was very good however. Colors in the Champlain Valley are just starting, with route 116 showing good early color. I have to give the nod to route 30 right now. You should have good color in northern Vermont this weekend. Routes 109 and 118 have a lot of covered bridges. Check my answer in the "10/15-10/17 post for directions.

I just drove route 100 today and would definitely not recommend it. From Killington all the way up to I-89 it was poor except for a few patches.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

Route 30 it is. I'm a road enthusiast, so I plan on covering a lot of ground this weekend (that is, if my girlfriend doesn't make me get out and walk around too much!) I'll put up a post Sunday night detailing where I thought the best color was. Thanks again.
