Getting worried for Oct 14-18 trip
Am I jumping the gun here? I can't help but be worried that our trip into southern Vermont and New Hampshire will be a little late on Oct 14-18 for good color. Do the peak colors stick around for a few days? We fly into Manchester Friday afternoon the 14th. Would we be better off heading into northern Massachusetts?

You shouldn't be late at all. Hike up to the top of Mt. Monadnock for some amazing views. You've picked good dates, and I think that over that weekend in New England you'll never be more than an hour away from spectacular foliage.
Last year I was in Nashua and Manchester for several days right around Halloween, and the color was still gorgeous then, if that answers your question at all about whether the foliage lingers.

That is a good time for that area. The reports you have read about southern VT are for the highlands. The lower areas around Brattleboro and Bennington will turn later. If fact I expect the colors will be good as far north as White River Jct. this year.

Thanks for setting my mind at ease. We were hoping not to have to chase the colors too much by car. I appreciate the help.

I drove from Danby down to Bennington today. There is still LOTS of green in that area. --c
