Are there any places in NY state that have foliage comparable to Vermont? I have a friend in the Finger Lakes area and we'd like to do some sightseeing. I was thinking that I might be going to White River Junction, but now it seems I may be going to New York state instead. Any suggestions???

New York State is lovely also. Are you travelling around the Finger Lakes, or do you intend to go to the Adirondacks? If you are staying in the Finger Lake region, Route 20 is a quite picturesque...atleast from Cazenovia to Skaneateles. The foliage is excellent around Tully...lots of reds, yellows & oranges and lots of valleys, lakes & farms. I think, however, that their peak season is a bit later than Vermont's. I am not as familiar with the area west of there, although, I do know it has some great vinyards!

I live in NYS and the foliage is nowhere near as beautiful as VT... the finger lakes area is nice, but the color is not as intense or as wide spread. Some of the state parks (i.e. Letchworth) can be very colorful toward the end of October.
Given a choice between NY and VT foliage, I'd chose VT!

While New York foliage isn't as good as Vermont, it's still worth seeing. The southern Adirondacks along routes 8 and 28 is nice. The Catskills are pretty good also. I am not familiar with the Finger Lakes area, but I saw some descent color around Binghamton when I was over there a few years ago. It all depends on when you are going to be there.

Hi,
I have a place on Skaneateles Lake and I'm going to Stowe Oct 7-10th... Does that tell you which place is better? The colors are beautiful near the southern end of the lake where it is hilly and there are a lot of trees. I leave my boat in longer just so I can head down that way later in the season. The northern end is rather flat.

Hope this helps!

Alex
