New England Images: An Appetizer
For anyone who may be interested, I've posted my inaugural blog entry covering my time in New England this fall, with a more or less random assortment of images from Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire (as I've just begun postprocessing). I'll begin a chronological narrative with my next post, probably next week. In the meantime:

Thanks very much, Carol, for the kind words and all of the guidance and specific place recommendations during my time in Vermont. I can't overestimated the role you played in making my trip to VT a successful one. I very much enjoyed the day we spent photographing and I certainly hope we have the opportunity to it again at some point down the road.abby wrote:Hi Kerry,
Well that certainly was a delicious appetizer and left my mouth watering, waiting for the entree and dessert. Wonderful narrative and beautifully composed images! I'm really looking forward to reading your future blog posts. It was a pleasure getting to know you and spending time with you during your stay in Vermont. You are an extraordinary photographer and an inspiration to me as I travel along my own photographic journey. I'm glad our paths have crossed, and perhaps some day we will meet again.

Thanks very much, mmvt! I had a great time in New England and I was very, very lucky to have been on the ground during such a brilliant, and lengthy, peak foliage season. I'm also lucky that Carol was so gracious, both with her time and knowledge of photo opportunities in Vermont. And I also want to express my thanks to you and everyone else on this forum for the collective willingness to share information about conditions and locations with me. To the extent that my photo experience was a successful one, you all played a major role in it; I'm well aware of that fact and I thank you all, very much, for it.mmvt wrote:what a great blog Kerry!! I am so happy that you were able to see VT in its absolute glory this year!! Your photos are awesome and I really enjoyed reading your commentary about how you approached your 2 week journey. I am glad you were able to spend a day with Carol (abby) whose love of VT and ability to capture its beauty is a true gift.
Thanks for sharing your experience and I look forward to seeing more of your work!!

Re the moose...head to Maine (where, legend has it, there's a moose on every corner). Seriously, in parts of five days there in late September I saw a moose twice--big bull moose both times--and I really wasn't even trying to maximize moose viewing opportunities.; there's a certain irony to the fact that my moose photo op came in Vermont.
The Kennebec River Valley part of Maine is, I'm told, an almost certain moose spotting locale (and on my single brief foray there...yup, saw a moose, sauntering across US 201, just a bit south of Jackman). I was in my car on the shoulder, within about 200 feet as he started to nibble on something after reaching the edge of the forest on the west side of the road, trying to decide whether to retrieve my camera from the trunk and use the vehicle as a blind when a semi (201 is a popular truck route) came up the hill and around the curve heading the other direction and the noise spooked him a little bit and he headed slowly into the forest.
