The first is the Burke Mountain Fall Foliage Festival for Saturday, September 28th, 2013. A group of us went to for a meetup last autumn and it was great! Unfortunately, the mountain was fogged in and we couldn't take the lift ride. If you see the photo on the link of the poster be sure to stop by the info booth and buy one for a nominal fee. It was one of the reasons I went there to frame this beautiful poster and I left without it.
Carol was kind enough to make her dear hubby go out of their way to save it for me for when we got together again at mmvt's Killington meetup. I now have it framed and it is gorgeous! The second fair now listed is the Peru Fair on the same day!!!! This has got to be my favorite fall foliage festival in Vermont! I went for the first time last autumn and the town of Peru is adorable. They have hundreds of tents set up and live entertainment and soooooo many amazing food booths! The crafts are excellent. You can take a shuttle bus from the mountain resort right to the festival and there is an entrance fee as well. A great time was had by all with so many happy folks milling about! This is where I will be on September 28, 2013!

Here is another fair that has the September dates listed already and one I go to every year! This is the Chester Fall Festival on the Green, home of our own forum member bhavjen, who owns a cabin in Chester. I am fortunate to be so close to Chester and meet up with him and his family each year at this great festival. If you haven't been to the quaint town of Chester, this is a great destination, not only to attend the fair but to see all that Chester has to offer. The surrounding back roads in the area are beautiful. Last year, the Chester and Peru Fairs were on the same weekend so we got to hit both on a gorgeous fall day. This year, the Chester Fair is the weekend before the Peru Fair. The crafts are very affordable and there are so many delicious food booths. If you go, be sure to eat at and support the local fireman's booth which is deeeeelicious! There is a great antique and collectibles spread on the lawn in front of the church with some great finds every year. The old graveyard is quite interesting as well. On the way up from 91, stop at the Vermont Country Store on route 103 in Rockingham for a perfect fall day's excursion!

I have yet to get here! It is always on Columbus Day Weekend and I'm usually done with my Vermont foliage excursion by then. Last year it was on the day I was leaving Vermont so I missed it once again. It looks like a great event and hopefully I'll get there someday! Newfane has an outstanding town green with beautiful churches and the foliage is probably very nice around Columbus Day Weekend in this area.

This event looks wonderful! Tunbridge and the surrounding towns are beautiful so a back road drive including this festival would make for a perfect day trip! There are so many things going on in Vermont this weekend, I wish I could be in all the places at once! If you go, stop in the town of Strafford. The town is absolutely mesmerizing!

This is probably one of the best autumn festivals I have been to in beautiful Danville! This is the 11th annual event and last year it was held off the green due to road construction in town. It looks like the same situation for 2013. There are so many wonderful craft tents from local vendors and artisans and the prices are very reasonable. The food booths are AMAZING! There is also great entertainment and lots of fun venues for children as well. Last year, or maybe it was the year before, (I can't remember as I have been so many times
), it was pouring rain, and bm and I didn't stay very long as the mud around the tents was yucky! But, we still had fun and always manage to buy a few items. I hope it returns to the green in the near future, but parking seemed a lot easier at the school. You can't go wrong at this unique craft fair! The roads around Danville are gorgeous and it would make for a great day trip. One year Al Utzig and I toured the back roads around Danville and since he is not a craft fair kind of guy, he dropped me off and bm met me at the Autumn on the Green so we could satisfy our shopping needs!

The Northeast Kingdom Fall Foliage Festival brings a piece of “Old Vermont” to life for visitors with local crafts, hymn sings, band concerts, church suppers, historical tours and the most beautiful fall colors you have ever seen!
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 - WALDEN
Join us for Walden’s Country Fair! Our day begins with registration at 9 a.m. at the Walden Methodist Church with coffee & donuts. Enjoy the sights and sounds of country life, the small town friendly atmosphere, and the display of traditional action exhibits, crafts and interacting with a myriad of farm animals, large and small. The folks of Walden will share country music and small home businesses nestled in the wooded hills. A homemade soup and sandwich lunch will sustain you for an afternoon of tours to a dairy farm, horse farm and our rural school, with a little dancing and a snack thrown in. A family-style Barbecue Beef Supper will be served with mashed potatoes, veggies and home baked pies, beginning at 5:30 pm, $12. For supper reservations, call (802)533-7122. Welcome! Coffee Hour begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Cabot School Gym. Make a day touring old school houses, craft shops, the Public Library and Cabot Creamery. Crafts available in the gym from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. In the afternoon, enjoy a hayride to a sugarhouse, afternoon musical and play performances, and hike to Nicols Ledge. Corn chowder and chili luncheon (adults $6, children $2.50) at Cabot Church at 11:30 am, 12:30 and 1:15 pm. Turkey dinner at 5:00 and 6:15 pm (adults $10, children $5) at the Cabot School. A full day of activities begins with Coffee Hour at 9 a.m. and registration at Grace United Methodist Church. Foliage tours available at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tours telling the history of the Barre granite quarries, see glass blowers at work, taste wine at Grandview Winery, scenic spots and a hike to Owls Head with a bag lunch. Other points of interest will be offered throughout the day. Crafts, baked goods, and jewelry will be for sale, along with other items of interest for everyone. Cafeteria-style luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $5.00. Entertainment in the afternoon. Barbecued Chicken, Mostaccioli and Baked Bean Supper at 5 and 6 p.m. for $12.00. Wagon rides, starting at the vestry will be given weather permitting. A bus tour between Ben Thresher’s Mill, the Sunset Alpaca Farm, the Walter Harvey Meeting House and traveling scenic back roads. Arts & crafts are also at the McIndoes Church, with a soup and sandwich lunch served starting at 11:30 a.m. A European Coffee Hour will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at the West Barnet Church. Our Annual Parade starts at 1:30 p.m. Browse in the Peter Paul Historical House anytime during the day. Participate in the Old Fashioned Hymn Sing at the Methodist Church at 8 p.m. to close the day. I love the NEK Fall Foliage Festival! I have not been to the Walden, Cabot or Plainfield celebrations but have been to Peacham, Groton and Barnet days. All fabulous! Especially the famous chicken pie dinner in Groton! This is a MUST! If you don't make reservations, you will be OUT OF LUCK! The seatings are well organized and the lines move quickly and you get to sit with wonderful locals from the area. The folks we sat with gave us great hints on back roads and hidden gems in the area when I went years ago. I am hoping to convince Carol to have dinner there with me when we stay at our farm in Marshfield!

For 40+ years, the Dummerston Apple Pie Festival has been held each year on the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend, the peak of colorful autumn foliage in Southern Vermont. A full 1500 apple pies are made by many church members and friends and proudly served with Vermont cheese and hand churned ice cream. A farmer’s breakfast, grilled lunch, tag sale, and craft fair make the festival a whole day event. Folks from all over the Northeast travel by motorcycle and automobile to take part in the festivities.
Another fall festival I have always wanted to go to but alas, it is Columbus Day Weekend and I'll be long gone from my Vermont Foliage trip this year. Unless of course, I drive up for the day. Hmmmmm......

I took the single chair lift during foliage season and it was AMAZING!!!!!! It is the most peaceful, breathtaking journey into foliage heaven I've ever experienced! Traveling by yourself on the single lift surrounded by nature and stillness, except for the hum of the lift ride is mesmerizing to say the least. The views are extraordinary and being at the top... well, you have to be there to feel the exhilaration!!!! Go for it!!!!

This is a great event! They have the most beautiful fall foliage display in front of the winery. Last year Phil and I stopped by so I could stock up on Cow Tipper Wine (deeeeeeeeelicious) for gifts and for myself of course (still have a bottle chillin' in the frig
) in the POURING rain. Poor Phil had to help me carry my bags of wine and gifts to the car in the those flooding downpours. They have a lot of food items on display in the winery and great wine tasting bar.
