Nek central loop (from the drives thread). 10/1
First, thanks to from_the_nek for providing this wonderful drive. Despite the rain we had a blast! Favorite roads: Pudding hill, underpass, 16, hinton hill, newark, darling hill. Also we hit may pond which was awesome. May pond, may pond road, and 16 inthat vicinity may have had the best color of the day. Willoughby color was behind all the above mentioned roads. Jobs pond was good though we only got glimpses of the opposite shore due to clouds/fog. Need to go back and do darling hill on a sunny day, those views.....wow!
Note on the weather: temps were 38-43 (brrrrrrrr) on this drive and this was in the middle of the day (11-2)! It rain varying intensities all day. The rain did not ruin our day, we still saw lots of good color up close and on adjacent hillsides (long range views were a no go though).
IMPRTANT NOTE: if you do this drive be aware that the sign for s ridge rd is not there. Its the first road on the left after you start descending fom the top of the hill. If you miss it, just go straight on pudding hill and then left on calendar, which is what we did today.

Snookman2, we probably passed each other all day yesterday, as I did the same route! I also had to back track to get on S Ridge Rd, missed it the first time by ! I was impressed with the condition of the unpaved roads, much better than my towns paved roads! If the fog had lifted a bit more, the views would have been unbelievable. But what I did see makes me want to make another trip back on a nicer day. No matter how the weather was, I still had a blast.

Ha! Thats great! I saw a couple cars out there and wondered if it was anyone from the forum. When we turned onto sugarbush there was a car sitting there (taking pictures?). We waited for tht car to pull away so we could snap a shot. Perhaps that was you? Also, i completely agree with you on the condition of the roads. Where were the potholes on those unpaved roads? Soooo smooooth.

Considering how much rain we've had this year, the gravel roads are in excellent shape. The towns have done a great job keeping them smooth.
May Pond is an easy/excellent side adventure if you choose the Route 16 alternate route over going over the rough Wheeler Mtn Rd.

P.S. This morning looked like there was some excellent picture potential with the sun peaking through the clouds and really good color. Unfortunately, I'm at work
