St. Johnsbury - Friday, Oct. 6

I saw very, very pretty foliage today (Thursday, October 5) in the state to the east (in the White Mountain National Forest area). I am in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, now, and would like recommendations for my drive on Friday. I read from PWT that the road from Smugglers Notch to Stowe is at peak color. Any other suggestions? As the day progresses, I eventually need to start heading south toward Manchester, so I my itinerary is flexible.

Thank you!

How are the colors in the St. J area? I'll be heading up this afternoon.
Burke is only a few miles to the north on 91 so make sure to take a drive down Darling Hill road nice views of Burke mountain and the gap. That area should also be peak right now. If you want a good view of Willoghby Gap take 114 to East Burke then take a right on Mountain Rd, there will be a sign for the lodge on the right turn in there and go up to the condos past the lodge. Park and walk out towards the ski lift and you'll get a great view of the gap. If you want a close up of the gap just drive up 5 to 5A to westmore, pwt also suggested goind down victoy road, I've never been there but I plan on going this weekend.

I am planning to go to White mountains this saturday and stay in St. Johnsbury Sunday. Since you said that you have seen some pretty good color, can you suggest me which routes to take?

SF 9419, do you mean Manchester Vermont or Manchester New Hampshire?
NSC 37, I would take I-93 south to New Jamphire and get off exit 40 and take route 302 south/east through Crawford Notch and then the Bear Notch Road in Bartlett at the flashing yellow light. Ask the locals where the best foliage is and wander around.
