Visiting Oct 18-22...too late??

Hello,
After many years of wanting to experience and witness foliage in VT, my husband and I finally made the trip last year with our son during the Columbus holiday week. We took many suggestions offered on this site, and even though last year may not have been the best show on the books, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are coming back for more this year, and I'm sure, many more years. This year, however, we will not be able to be in the VT area until Oct. 18 (driving from VA to Boston for a meeting 16th and 17th, and driving up on the 17th). Will we completely miss all the glory this year?? Suggestions for our best options?? Please don't say stay in Boston or drive back home because we are coming regardless!! :) Also, we are likely going to camp 1 or 2 nights...any suggestions for campsites would be greatly appreciated. Finally, maybe a stupid question, but does "late" on the foliage tracker mean that leaves are on the ground??
Thank you,
Michelle

Hi:
Foliage color will likely have peaked by the time you arrive, but there may be some good spots left depending on wind and rain. What is left should be in southern Vermont - Arlington - Manchester - Dover - Brattleboro. The hills may be bare but the valleys may have something to see.

Can't help you with the camping, but maybe PWT can help out here...?

The tracker merely shows the progression of color. When it is all dark brown, the color is over.

All of the state campgrounds will be closed, but some private campgrounds will be open. Check campvermont.com for information. Southeast or southwest Vermont will be your best bet.

It definitely depends on the rain/wind factor that late in the season; the southern half should have better colour and the higher up you go.

Chilly for camping!
