From some of the posts, it seems like the color is starting early this year(?) I would love to visit VT the weekend of 10/7, but can't (wife's HS reunion...sigh). So its either 9/30 or 10/14. I realize that both could be good, depending on location, but if you had to choose, which would it be? thanks

Hi. I'm not from VT, but I can try to help. The foliage in New England is dependant on the amount of rain and moisture is acumilated through the summer and on. It also depends on what part of VT you are looking to go to. Always remember higher elevations and areas more north will get to peak season faster then lower elevations and areas more south. I usually stay in Stowe, and this will be my 3rd year going in row, and I find that there is no set day or week for peak season. Areas further south in VT will generally take longer to change color. I personally would prefer mid OCT if your staying in the Stowe/ Smugglers Notch area, or even both dates, but if you want to be in southern VT I would recommend you go in OCT. hope this helps

Sept 30 would be good for the northeast area of VT. Oct 14 would be best for the middle part of the state. I think either date will be good.

I agree. We're visiting the weekend of 10/13-10/15 and are staying in the Killington area. We've been there around this time before and have seen great color. If you're going to visit mid October, definitely try to visit midstate.

If you decide to come on the September 30 weekend, stay in the northern part of the state, and on the October 14 weekend somewhere mid-state. We provide our guests with driving tours and watch the foliage reports to see which way is best at which point. We're just north of Stowe, and the peak does come around Columbus Day here. We have driving tours for our guests and we watch the foliage reports so we can advise our guests which way to go for the best color.
