After the World Series game on television this evening (Wednesday 10/26),local news followed. The weather forecaster announced Vermont got 20 inches of snow with schools closed! Did not mention where in Vermont. pwt54, bm and innkeeperSeymourLakeLodge give us an update of the snow. If you got your share of it, take care and be careful on the roads.

As bm said, all elevation dependent.

In Bennington they got a slushy inch, while at my place in the mountains it looked like this yesterday morning... ;) --c

What a great picture! IXL, where in the mountains is that, if you don't mind me asking? As much as I love Vermont, I don't think I could handle your winters but I love to see the pictures. Here in Texas, we haven't even had much fall weather yet, let alone winter. Of course, we rarely get a big snowstorm anyway but it's fun when we do unless I have to drive in it. :)

Thanks. It's in the southern Greens off route 9, a few miles from the back side of Mount Snow. --c

Amazing how one moment we are discussing the fall foliage in Vermont and while still on the subject, the snow arrived! Thanks for sharing your updates! Charles, the picture is lovely..looks like a real winter pix compared to one you'd expect in October!! While up there in the Northeast Kingdom, the first week of October, we were really amused with how many had stockpiled firewood and how many trucks we saw with snowplows on them! Even stopped to look at the unusual snowplows on dealers' lots. We kept commenting on how people seemed to be busily, preparing for a snow! Again, thanks for sharing!
Hope our forum's innkeeper up at Seymour lake who is deep in the Northeast Kingdom is doing okay!

We got about 8 inches of wet heavy snow in St.Albans. It took me all morning to shovel the sidewalks because our new snowblower hadn't arrived. It showed up at 2 PM. In Johnson we barely had a trace.

We had about 6" in Manchester, but it was gone in 24 hours. It was wet & heavy, so it knocked down some of the weaker trees and branches.

The long range forecast is for a cold, snowy winter.

Driving up and down route 9 today, as you go uphill from the valley the snow suddenly "starts" at around 2000 feet, then going downhill it suddenly "ends" at around the same location. :)

Here's one more, a bit better than the first I think...

After just visiting Vermont the first week of October and falling in love with Vermont, Charles, have to admit because you deserve the credit, this latest picture of yours of the red leaves peeking out from under snow made my eyes well up with tears! Perhaps many of those on this forum who share my love for nature will understand how such beauty of red leaves under snow can be such an inspiration! Thanks so much for sharing it. In the future, do consider posting it and some of your other great 2005 Fall foliage pictures as another slideshow on the Foliage-Vermont.com

Charles,

Beautiful picture of first snow. First snow is always so nice.

It's later snow that's quickly not as nice... when it seems to want to last forever...

Charles,

How do you include a picture to your posting like this?

I've only been able to include links to my external pictures on PBase, such as http://www.pbase.com/bellavance

Thanks.

Pierre

24Vermont, thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the picture.

Pierre, it is just externally linked from my own website. To embed, surround with "img" tags, like this:

Note that this does not use up any extra bandwidth from this site.. but pbase may not allow external embedding unless you have the right level of membership. --c

This is a test. Here's a picture I took last fall in Vermont:

Nice shot, Pierre...

Watch out with that shadow/highlight tool -- you've got a bit of haloing there. :) --c
