I know the dates I have listed are a little late but it's the only time I can get up there. Would I be better off trying Massachusetts or upstate NY or will there still be some peak areas in my place of choice, Vermont. If, as I have seen mentioned the best chances are in the southern part of the state could you please mention the towns with the most potential in those areas and maybe even suggest a scenic drive or two.
Thanks, you guys have been very helpful!

Actually, from the reports and pictures I've seen so far, Oct 20-21 may be about peak. (I'll be in the area Oct 10-13 and I think I might see mostly green, sadly.)
I'm sure you will get other suggestions from people that live in the area but I will throw two out there.
I visited last year and found the Mt. Sunapee State Park region, near Newbury, VT to be very nice. I would think this would have good color at the time you will be in the area.
The other area that was spectacular was the White Mountain region of NH. I was there the 13 of Oct last year and it was past peak. This year you should check reports, but I think you might see it at peak.
Hope this helps.

Southeast and southwest should still have good foliage this year. The Berkshires in western Massachusetts might be a little better. It's hard to tell this year.
