State foliage report for Thursday, October 8th

Vermont is right in the heart of another storybook foliage season, with fall color now present in every part of the state as some regions move beyond peak, others come into peak, and still others are just beginning to see leaves changing. Western and southern areas and the Champlain and Connecticut Valleys are enjoying early to mid-stages, with splendid color throughout and plenty of green leaves still present, even as they also see swaths of bare branches on ridges and exposed areas. Color abounds in much of Central Vermont, while the northern areas and the Northeast Kingdom are largely in late stages of the season, with most leaf color now piled on the ground, reminding us that leaf peeping isn’t just about looking up, but also about looking down underfoot. Even in places where color is past peak, some late-turning species such as aspen, birch, and oak are still predominantly green, promising more amber and even red hues ahead. No matter where you are in Vermont, the season is still well worth taking in.

Hoping Brandon and Weston this coming weekend do not disappoint. We are staying at The Lilac Inn this weekend, and plan to make our ritual stop in Weston. We were in Woodstock and Queeche last weekend, and there was barley any color anywhere

Hi Robb! Welcome to the foliage forum! I would drive around Bennington, Shaftsbury, route 7 corridor up to Manchester. Some reports on facebook/instagram say the color is great in Bennington, and a lot of green trees in Bennington remain. Try Shaftsbury Lake in Lake Shaftsbury State Park on 7A, Arlington, route 313. You also may find color in extreme SE VT around Brattleboro and keeping to areas just north of route 9 which is most probably in stick season due to the high elevation, route 100 south of Dover, Putney, Dummerston, Townshend and along route 5 areas as well. Try the Champlain Valley if you are in that location. We had a lot of rain here last night in CT and it is a steady one with no wind but we are still in early to mid stages with peak in the high elevations. Not sure how VT fared with the rains lately.
