Leaf-drop after heavy rain today

Is there anyone that was in Vermont today that has a more or less precise idea on the extent of the leaf drop after today's rain?

The webcam at Stratton, went from 20% bare to 60% bare today at the 2,700' level.

Thanks for the info! Do you think is going to be as bare at lower altitudes?

Your best bests for foliage in Southern/Central Vermont this weekend will probably be I-91 and the CRV, perhaps the Ascutney area, Route 9 at lower elevations, Route 7 and Route 112. Not only did we have heavy rain today, but winds behind the CF are forecast to be up to 30mph on Friday.

Mt Greylock and the area between Charlemont and the North Adams area may have the best foliage this weekend in MA. The foliage was also near peak along I-91 from Northampton to Route 2 as well as to the VT line. The area around Brattleboro and the start of Route 30 is mostly Oak and they are 100% green at this point.

I'm not sure where you are starting from, but I would do I-91 to Route 2 and head torwards the Greylock area and into Vermont on Route 7.

Thanks for the heads up and the suggestions. I am indeed more worried about the wind today than the rain yesterday.
Wind is so strong in Philly this morning that green trees are dropping plenty of leaves.

Fairly significant leaf drop above 2,500' across Vermont based on the webcam views. It's also very windy behind the CF with winds in the 20-30mph range. Here in Enfield the foliage is about 85% green. I'm thinking we will have a spectacular finish here with seasonable weather sticking around for the foreseeable future. I think peak around here will be next weekend and a bit after. It's probably going to get down to freezing next week, accelerating the color change.

I have spoken over the phone with Mount Greylock's rangers.
The good news is very limited leaf drop after this morning's wind.
On the other hand, they say color is <50%.
They said that the next couple of nights, that will be pretty chilly, might accelerate the color dramatically.

I'll be there on Sunday, it should be Sunny and with a nice view.

Greylock is a nice place to visit in the Fall with 360 degree views along the way up/down. I was there last October, but the fall foliage color was very poor in quality. This year is a 100% difference.

Here is the route I took today, leaving from Lebanon, NH:

89 South to exit 10, North Sutton
NH Rt 114 S
NH Rt 31 S
Stopped in Wilton, NH
NH 101 E
NH 9 W
VT 30 N
VT 35 N
Stopped in Townshend, VT
- Peaked Mtn Rd
- East Hill Rd.
- Deer Valley Rd.
VT 7N to Rutland.
Then took 4 E through Killngton, Woodstock and Quechee.

I have to say overall the color was disappointing. Either fading or past peak. There were a few pockets of color here and there. Just north of Stratton Mtn., Wallingford and Rutland had some good color. Only one mountain in Killington did - Raybeck. The rest had about 50% complete leaf drop and what was left was fading, more russet. Woodstock, mixed, kinda green. Quechee has been pretty awful this year. Suffering the same problem as Lebanon and Hanover. Part of a tree turns a bit, the rest stays green. Then the part that turned starts to go brown and the green leaves start looking dry then eventually brown. Not much good around Brattleboro, pretty green still. The best color I saw was going down 89 around New London. My plan had been to head west on Rt. 4 but it was getting too late, so I headed back home. Spent 11 hrs on the road today, including stops for photography. Spent 2 hrs. in Wilton, found some nice waterfalls to shoot.

Thanks for the update! How was Townshend? I will be in that area in the afternoon.

I didn't think Townshend was very good. I was on the roads mentioned, Peaked Mtn, etc. Rts. 30 and 35 and I saw nothing to write home about really. Maybe there was some decent color behind a church, where 30 and 35 meet, but I wouldn't make a special trip there, unless you want to go to that horse farm to see the horses, which was why I went. But not much good color there either dashing my hopes for horses with foliage photos. There may have been a spot or to along the way with other horses, but the sun wasn't in the right place for photos.

I think I forgot to mention, one mountain that had good color on Rt. 7 was Mt. Tabor.

Ok so from Manchester you would rather drive north to Mt Tabor and Rutland rather than going to Townshend lake

I'll be up to Mt Greylock tomorrow, hoping for good foliage conditions on the drive up. We are taking I-91 to I-90 to Route 7 and Route 2 home. Currently it's snowing in Vermont above 2,700' and accumulating above 3,000'.
