Report and pix from Somerset Reservoir (about 450 kb)

A number of folks are asking about the status of the Mount Snow area, so here goes...
I went over to the Somerset Reservoir and took my first shots of the year from the dam. The color is best in the valley just below Mount Snow, as it usually is this time of year. Things are a few days earlier than they were last year, and overall I think the color is a bit nicer. Good color on Somerset Road as well, the first half especially.
I'd say we are about 7-10 days from maximum color here right now.
The mountain in the first two pix is Mount Snow, viewed from the side opposite the resort. These were taken in the last light of the day, which emphasizes the color; in mid-day light it appears not nearly as colorful. The last one was taken with afterglow in the sky and thus is more for fun than a real indication of tree color.

Nice pictures!
I too am an avid photographer. I spent some time at that reservoir last year and shot a bunch of pictures. I also found myself on some God-forsaken road in my 4WD truck that led to some incredible scenery. I took the main road along Somerset Reservoir and kept on it for a while until I came to a bridge with a river/stream flowing below it.
There was a dirt road to the left with a street sign (but I forgot the name of the street). I turned down that road and went 9 miles, at around 5MPH all the way, over some incredibly rocky road. It was a blast.
I came across this area down that lonely road:

This weekend I would love to come back up, maybe head to Groton State Forest, but I don't know if I'll have the time to go all the way. I may go back to Somerset Reservoir, instead.

I remember you, Florindo. Welcome back!
To be honest, Somerset Reservoir (and the other reservoir on that road) are having an off year. Those pictures are basically the only ones I have taken; when I went last Sunday many trees were bare and the color overall is nowhere near as nice as it is up here in northern VT.
Best bet is to come further north now, or wait until the lower elevations of southern VT get better colored. --c

Charles, you are killing my wife and. We are so excited to get up to our place. Those are some awesome pics. Do you ever get down to Bridgewater area, just asking because a friend will have a 4X4 at our house this coming weekend, and there is a beautiful pond a few miles up from our place that you might wanna check out. I hope to get some good pics this weekend, but I havent a clue to what I'm doing. Thanks for the leaves and the great pics here, keep it up, Monte.

Beautiful pics.
ixl, did you get there on Somerset Road? Is that a dirt road?
..............
I went to Groton State Park on rt 232 today, I was disapointed. So many leaves on the ground and the colors were not nearly os colorful as your photos. I did Owls Head and all the water bodies except for Ricker Pond. Boulder Beach is a beautiful area but the wind has taken a toll on the leaves.
I went up Burke mtn toll road today also, above 2,200 feet the color is gone.
The most color I saw all day was on the I91 north and south of St Johnsbury and on rt 2 to about the Marshfield area.
