Can any of you fine Vermonters help out a couple of Kansans?
My wife & I are planning a 50-day road trip for our 50th anniversary next year. We’re hoping to spend at least two weeks in Vermont - late September & early October of 2019.
We attended the Peru Fair & the Stowe Oktoberfest two years ago, and loved them both. Next year, we’d like to catch some additional festivals - including the Northeast Kingdom Fall Foliage Festival. So we’re looking for answers to a few questions:
1) Have dates for the 2019 NEK Fall Foliage Fest been set already? If not, is it always held the first week in October?
2) Will the same seven villages be part of the 2019 festival, or does that change from year to year?
3) If you we going to recommend just one Vermont fall festival to visitors from Kansas, which one would you pick?

Hi Joe and Marilyn: Welcome to the SOV foliage forum! I'm usually in charge alongside Tim our board owner to propagate the "activity center" for all the festivals but time slipped by and I did not have time to update the 2017 festival list which is a sticky at the top of the forum. So here is the NEK Fall Dates for 2018 and they are almost similar to 2019. They don't normally post the 2019 dates until early to mid summer of that year.
Also, Happy Anniversary to you both! What a time you are in for! As far as picking one outstanding festival for you Kansas folks, you already went to the Peru Fair which is at the top of my list! Amazing! I was just in Peru Sunday and they are getting ready! The other one which I dearly love is the Danville Autumn on the Green! Absolutely fantastic! Here is the website! I go to so many festivals that when I have time, I'll think of more this evening. ANNUAL NORTHEAST KINGDOM FALL FOLIAGE FESTIVAL 2018
Seven festivals in seven days, each in a different town. Each has something unique to offer, including music, crafts, farmers' markets, parades, tours, history and great food! Specialty church suppers each night. It is totally amazing that the seven towns in the NEK put on such a grand succession of festivals! If you are up in Vermont for these days, please be sure to check them out. You will be so glad you did! If you choose Groton and want to do the chicken pie supper you have to have reservations and they sell out in no time. We had such a great time at the dinner seated at these long tables and enjoyed all the locals who were seated with us. Barnet is awesome, so many local crafts and Peacham is peachy sweet!

Tours telling the history of Barre granite at the Barre Granite Museum, Building of Winterwood Timber Frames, Marshfield School of Weaving (Old-time weaving), Blackthorne Forge, a Blacksmith, Hope Cemetery and Bragg's Sugar House (Tour of syrup Production Process and Gifts). Come to the Barnet Center Church vestry for a Pancake Breakfast, including Vermont maple syrup and sausage 8:00-11:00 am. All day there will be Arts and Crafts in the vestry area and at various spots around the town. Relax on the free Bus Tour that leaves from the vestry at 10:00 am, or travel the town on your own, to see local churches, the Goodwillie House, Ben Thresher's Mill, the Walter Harvey Meeting House, Dunc's Mill Distillery, local Sugar House, and scenic Barnet foliage. A soup and sandwich lunch is served starting at 11:30 at the Barnet Village Church. A European Coffee Hour will be open from 1:00 to 4:00 at the West Barnet Church. The sixth of the seven unique festivals being held over seven consecutive days is in Groton today!
Join us in Groton for our Festival Day. Start with a Lumberjack Breakfast in the Methodist Church from 7:30-10:30 am. Visit our Libray where there will be a book sale from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and browse in the Peter Paul Historical House anytime during the day. Participate in the Great Pumpkin weigh in from 10:30 to 12:30 at the Upper Valley Grill. Our annual parade starts at 1:30 pm led by the Blue Mountain School Band. Participate in the Old Fashioned Hymn sing at the Baptist Church at 8:00 pm to close the day. This will be our 63rd year of serving our World Famous Chicken Pie Supper!!! haha you are one step ahead of me then! I've always wanted to go to the Newfane Heritage Festival but I was always gone by Columbus Day Weekend because then I start my Connecticut and Berkshire tours and maybe back to VT one day on a weekend later in October. This year I am staying in VT two weeks! I'm not working anymore so I have more time to travel! Enjoy your trip planning!
