Question, the week of the 17th I plan to be in So. Vt. for a day trip and also plan to ride the Green Mt.Flyer.,any suggestions for a place to eat or any interesting place to go? Iam bringing relatives from So.Calif. so I want them to get a real feel for Vermont. Is the train ride a good one with good scenery? Thanks for any info.

The Flyer is a good ride. Colors will be in the late stages at that time but still to see. When you are done with the ride take route 103 back to Chester. Instead of turning right on route 103 in Chester, go straight into the village and look for route 35 on the left. Take that to Grafton and check it out. Take the Townshend road south from Grafton and check out the Cheese Factory. Finish the Townshend Road south to Route 35 south and turn right. Finish route 35 to route 30 in Townshend and turn right. Drive until you see the Scott Covered Bridge on your left. Check it out and then turn around and drive route 30 back through townshend and Newfane and into Brattleboro.

October 17th may be a touch late for the best VT foliage, depending on how the season turns out.

The good news is that you are in CT... so even if it is a touch late you will be going through western MA and NW CT, which should have great color then. Have a good time! --c
