Took a day trip today and headed up to Windham County in Vermont, which include the towns of Jacksonville, Wilmington, West Dover, Wardsboro, Jamaica and Stratton.

From CT, took I91 to Rte. 2 in Greenfield, MA. Had a wonderful blueberry pancake breakfast at Gould's Maple Sugar House in Shelburne (YUM!!), then hooked onto Rte. 8A in Charlemont. Gorgeous color all the way through and into Rte. 112. This route takes you into Vermont, and the serious foliage viewing began!

Drove Rte. 112 to Rte. 100 into Jacksonville and color is very vivid and sharp. Lots of reds and oranges along the way, with a little bit of green mixed in to keep it interesting! Wilmington and West Dover are very pretty, just about at peak. Again, lots of bright reds and oranges prevail. By next weekend (Columbus Day), it may be just past. We'll have to wait and see what the rain tomorrow does, hopefully the leaves will hold. I was finding the foliage to be somewhat spotty today...some areas pop out at you, and other areas were more muted in color. Followed Rte. 100 into Wardsboro (one of my favorite towns!). Color here is beautiful! Eyepopping reds, oranges, yellows and even some purples made for lots of finger-pointing, "Ohh, look at that"! moments. Jamaica was the same...peak for both of these areas will probably be sometime next week, again, depending on the weather. We finally ended up at Stratton Mountain, and took the gondola to the summit (I thought of you, ctyanky!). Perfectly blue skies, clear views, and amazing color everywhere you looked! Bright reds and oranges were again the prevailing colors here. It was beautiful here, even though it was actually JUST past peak...we spoke with a few of the locals who said we had just missed peak by a couple of days. No matter, it was gorgeous from the summit.

I think color in this vicinity will stick around for the better part of next week. Like I said, it was spotty in some areas too. So, head off the beaten paths and explore. Color around the lakes and ponds in this area are still vibrant! There are many mature maples that are stunning as well. Look for the individual trees too...there are hidden treasures all along the way! We had a great day all around with beautiful weather, light breezes and warm sunshine. There's still a lot of fall left, my friends. Get out there, explore, and enjoy every minute! I think I smiled all day! :)

You're welcome, Carol! We'll be back up in the West Dover area next weekend, so I'll give an update. The forecast right now is calling for a chance of showers from Tuesday through next weekend, but this IS New England, so it can change day-by-day! I'm hoping for a good week for everyone on their foliage journeys! Take in everything you can and just ENJOY Vermont to it's fullest. Oh, and don't forget those maple creamees!! :)
