Hello everyone!
Very helpful inputs from people on this forum. Been following the forum as we were planning our trip.
We are going to be in Vermont from Oct 3rd to Oct 6th. We are stationed at Killington and plan to drive around to enjoy the lovely fall colors in the area. Any ideas on where we should be heading to capture the peak. Little disappointed on reading a few posts about the colors disappearing pretty quickly
. We were thinking of exploring the Warren, Waitsfield areas tomorrow. Any suggestions/inputs on how colors are holding up there??
Tomorrow looks like a good day with the sun out before the rain sets in on Saturday.
Quite excited about the trip

amsy82, I wouldn't worry too much about the colors disappearing! Was just on I-89 between Montpelier and Sunapee, NH yesterday (Oct. 1), and can tell you that-- although there are definitely ribbons/ bands of peak and just-past-peak colors-- there are also MANY locations with near-peak and peak color to come in the next 5-7 days. So you will find those gifts for sure!

Phil (pwt) just reported yesterday that Waitsfield was nearing peak so I think tomorrow is your day to be there! Warren should be pretty too. I hear Blueberry Lake is gorgeous and you might consider adding that to your Waitsfield journey! Go for it!
From PWT (Phil) yesterday: "Colors in Stowe are hanging on very well and are just peaking in Waitsfield".
Try Bragg Hill, East Warren Road, Common Road and the back roads in Fayston (north of Waitsfield on 100) which have lovely views descending from the top! The Icelandic Horse Farm where I rode each year is in Fayston, and the back roads around there will be great! Mad River Glen is usually bursting with color around the bend before you ascend to the App Gap and it is not far from Bragg Hill. Take the single chair lift up Mad River Glen for a ride of a lifetime! They may be doing the lift rides over the next two weekends.
Enjoy and please post back what you have found!
P.S. The Mad Taco is deeeeeeeelicious for lunch in Waisfield!!!!! I think I ate there 3 times last fall when I stayed in town.

Waitsfield and the back roads were breathtakingly beautiful!!! Thanks for the suggested back roads. Won't be able to post any photos at the moment though.
Seems like the sun's gonna be out tomorrow and lookig. Forward to it. We want to leave really early in the morning but not sure where we should be heading. Any ideas on where we should be going to see more of these quaint towns abounding with fall colours???
Ctyanky, the mad tacos was delicious. Couldn't do the the single-chair lift though
. But there's always next time as I would definitely be coming back to VT

Glad you had so much fun and you liked the Mad Taco!
I was in western Mass all day Friday. Going up on route 7 to Williamstown, O - M - G!
Peak everywhere! North Adams and Adams are hot spots now and being so close to Pownal, I can assure you that area is awesome as well.
Western section of the
Mohawk Trail was amazing! I think you should try SW or SE sections of VT on the way home or even route 7 south to NW MA. The Adirondacks were gorgeous on Friday!
Maybe others still up there can chime in for your return route, because obviously I can't evaluate the situation in VT after today's rain. Our foliage was not affected at all down here as we are only 50% or slightly more changed.
Hope you post some of your back roads in Waitsfield and perhaps photos! Have a great trip home!
