The 2013 September equinox comes on September 22, at 3:44 p.m. CDT.

This happened a couple of years ago and I think it is very exciting! I won't be in Vermont until a few days later but I hope the weather is clear and I can welcome the first day of fall and howl at the moon! (Private joke with Carol).

The weather is gorgeous here in New England and the full sturgeon moon is out right now and it is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you all get outside and take a peak!

I am afraid of bears at night and other wildlife coming out of the woods. Besides, I will probably go to bed early because milking cows, chasing piggies and collecting eggs early in the a.m. is very tiring. You can enjoy the nightlife of Vermont while I am in my cozy room as the mooing cows lull me to sleep. Enjoy the stars my foliage fanatic friend. I have to get up early and milk more moo cows and get eggs for your country breakfast.

p.s. It is the full Sturgeon moon tonight. Howl Howl Howl.

The moon is just rising over the mountains, unfortunately mostly shrouded in clouds, but there are bright silvery rays lining the clouds, very mysterious looking. But the I thought I could hear a distant howl......could that be Ct....no it would be llp.m. for her, surely she is peacefully sleeping deaming sweet Vermont autumn dreams!

Hi all you foliage crazies! Don't forget Sunday, the 22nd of September is a big day for all of us moon fanatics and the first day of autumn 2013!!!!!

The full harvest moon is heralding in our favorite season at the same time and it doesn't always happen like this! Get ready to celebrate! The clouds will be parting in the northeast for spectacular viewing! Get out the cameras and hope some of you will post some shots of the full moon at its best!

HOWL HOWL HOWL FROM CONNECTICUT!

There is a very good chance I will be celebrating in Vermont on Sunday at the Chester Fall Festival! :D

Mea Culpa! The next full moon, the harvest moon, will be Thursday, September 19th, 2013 not the 22nd, the first day of autumn. I was outside tonight thinking wow, it's almost full! :? Sorry for the misinformation! Nonetheless, here is a small tidbit on the Harvest Moon which I thought was interesting.

In years when the Harvest Moon falls in October, the September full Moon is usually known as the Full Corn Moon because it traditionally corresponds with the time of harvesting corn. It is also called the Barley Moon, because it is the time to harvest and thresh the ripened barley.

Anyways, I'll still be howling over the next couple of days in CT and definitely on Sunday, the first day of autumn.

Ever wonder why a full moon looks so big when it is near the horizon. It is an optical illusion explained here.
