Can anyone recommend a walking/hiking trail for my parent? We are going to Killington this weekend and drive up to Montpelier. This is our first time in Vermont.

Thanks.

In Montpelier you have 2 trails. One is the trail system at Hubbard Park. The other is the North Branch Nature Center trail system on Elm Street. It starts behind the City Swimming Pool. Stop in at the Welcome Center on 134 State Street neat the capitol. They have some information and maps. I think the North Branch trail would be better because it has more color. I'm not sure how extensive a trail you want. You could do parts of the Long Trail around the Killington/Mendon area. I wouldn't go to the top of Killington Mountain, however. There is snow up there. One thing I like to do is hike some of the National Forest roads. One that comes to mind is the Texas Falls Road of route 125 in Hancock. Take the Texas Falls road to the falls and check it out. Then continue up the road until you come to an open gate. Park in the area before the gate and walk the road up and back.
