Hey all,

Just looking for some advise on the best route to drive from Northern Jersey to East Central Vermont on Nov 1. I know it might have passed the peak foliage season but still trying to catch something...and any good B&B around the area...

If there is any foliage left it would be along the Connecticut River Valley or the southwestern Vermont lowlands. If you are going to east central Vermont, the the River Valley would be the way you are going. I-91 or US 5 would be the roads. East Central Vermont is a big area for us. Where were you planning on staying? There are quite a few B&Bs around there.

Perhaps I provided the wrong information...I was thinking about Manchester area...I did some research last night...and that's not exactly east central Vermont. Any ideas now? Thanks!

And might consider swinging by to Lake George area...

I'd take the Taconic State Parkway out of NYC to start with. It's slower but more scenic and NO TRUCKS OR CAMPERS ALLOWED. It ends at I-90, a toll road, so I'd get off at route 203 east near Spencertown. Take route 203 east to route 22 in Austerlitz and turn left. Take route 22 north to route 7 east in Hoosick. Take route 7 east to Bennington,Vt.(Rt. 7 turns into Rt. 9 in VT.) Take route 7A (not route US 7) north to Manchester,VT. The roads I'm going to mention are with scenery in mind as there will not be a lot of foliage at that time. Route 30 is a favorite of mine. Near Pawlet you could take route 315 and 153 as well as routes 133 and 140 north of there. Routes 9 and 100 are good rides also. If it's still open, you could drive the Skyline Drive to the top of Mt. Equinox in Manchester. Because I'm doing this from home and not a work, I can tell you this; if I wanted to do a scenic foliage tour in November, I'd do the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and North Carolina. I've done it once in foliage season and a few other times in the off season. Incredible!! I 've noticed, and the news reports are saying the same thing, the foliage seems to be a week late this year,so keep your fingers crossed.

thanks for the tipbits...i was thinking about going up the NY throughway(87)...then go east from lake george....given that it might have peak in vermont during that weekend....and from the progression of the foliage chart...peak season seem to be moving out west....hopefully we'll catch something on the ny side...

Lake George might be too far north for foliage. Your best foliage may well be south of Albany. There are a lot of B&Bs around Manchester. I've never had to stay in them,so I can't really recommend one. They are all a bit pricy but all are topnotch. If price is not a problem, you can't go wrong with any of them.
