Hi,
I am planning to visit VT on 18th, 19th,20th.I am planning to see cover South & North-west. My interest is taking photos of foliage in woods. Not much keen on shooting vistas. So please suggest few Hiking Trails(2hr trails) where I can get good foliage colors.
I have short listed
a) Gifford Park
b) Groton
c) Jamica, Coolidge
d) Farms in Wood stock & Peachem.
Please let me know if I have selected wrong places. I ready to change the plans, let me know if you know of better SPs.
Thanks in advance.
Ramesh

------------------
Best color at that time would be south of route US4. Woodstock - Coolidge is good as well as Jamaica. Peacham - Groton maybe not.
Just southwest of Jamaica is a village called West Wardsboro. There is a road the going west to Arlington. It's forest highway 6, also called the Stratton - Arlington road or the Kelly Stand road. This is through the national forest. There are trails and the Appalchian trails. There are a couple of side roads , nfh70 and sfh 71. Great place to wander around.

Lowell Lake State Pakk just east of Londonderry. heading east turn left onto Lowell Lake Road. At the fork in the road turn right. the trail around the road is 3.5 milesand is gorgeous.
If you dont mind sweating, the Weathersfield Trail up Mt Ascutney will do you just fine.
Small and large waterfalls, the biggest one is 85 feet tall. Take 131 west from exit 8 on I-91. 3.3 miles later turn right onto Cascade Falls Road. turn left at the fork in the road and go to the parking lot at the end of the road. the falls are .4 miles and 1.3 miles in. near the summit there are some fantastic rock formations that are pretty photogenic as well.
If you dont want to climb there is a mountain road that goes nearly to the summit. Access from Ascutney State Park entrance on Rte 44A. Things still looked good this am. We have some pictures of both areas on our site under "activities".
------------------
Aleks & Michiko Hunter
Old Town Farm Inn
665 Vt.
