We'll be coming to Vermont on the 10th and staying until the 13th. We are staying right outside of Burlington, I just want a little insider insight... Is this a good time to come, I hear Champlain area peaks around the 2nd weekend in Oct. We are SOOOO excited!!

That should be a good time. Route 116 south from route US 2 in South Burlington should still be good. You may want to check out the snow geese at the Dead Creek Wildlife area on route 17 west in Addison. You can take route 116 south through Bristol village. About a mile past Bristol village you will come to a 4 way intersection where everyone has to stop. Go straight after the stop and you are on route 17 west. Drive that to route US 7 and turn right. Go about 500 feet and turn left to continue route 17 west. Drive on to route 22A and another stop sign and go straight again. In about a mile you will come to the Dead Creek Wildlife Area. look to the left for the snow geese. There is parking on the left. If you stop at a convenience store for gas look for a Jimmapco VT atlas and concentrate on the back roads between route 22A and route 30 and between route 30 and route US 7. There are ridges there with good views and colors. I like that area for late fall colors.

BM, are you the one that said you love the Bay Road? Be careful, the ponds and lakes in the road are higher than normal. Plus some mudboggers have found it. There are big ruts hidden in the "ponds" in the road. Also, on the Galick Road just before the gate there is a walnut tree. Don't pick the walnuts, there is a yellowjacket nest in the grass. My brother and I did some real fancy dancing.
