three or four day trip, need help

I will be leaving to go to vermont from NYC from early sunday sept.28 till tues eve or wednesday eve oct.2or3 and returning to nyc, the only reservations I have is for a place on lake willoughby for mon nite, beacuase I heard its beutiful, considering my time,and that Im going to need to be at lake willouby mon nite could you recomend a beautful senic route through the state and back for me, I've read countless foliage drive advice, and they all sound so nice,I can't do them all , I'm so confused , thanks, P.s. I love mountains, lakes,vistas, covered bridges and nice towns, but I have only three or four days.thank you so much
