One day left - go north or south?

I have one day left on my trip before heading back home on Saturday. Despite being late in the season and due to great advice from this site, I have stayed north for the last few days. The color has not been as vibrant as I have seen in past years (where is the red?), but it has still been great in places.

I have managed to avoid most of the rain by staying in the north, but consequently have not seen anything south of Woodstock. So, for my last day, should I risk the rains and head south for the Kelly Stand Road and points nearby or over to the White Mountains area? By the way, the Peacham/Barnet/Cabot area was very nice today. The colors were primarily orange and yellow but very vibrant.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Based on all I have seen and read in the last week, I would recommend the Whites. In fact, I am likely heading up there myself on Sunday.

See Jonie's thread -- the pix she posted from last weekend looked great. As for the Kelly Stand Road, it was pretty much at peak when I was there on Oct 6-7 -- after a week of rain and wind I bet there is not much left in the higher elevations. The lower part of the road may be okay, but I bet you will have better luck with the Whites.

Thanks for the info on Peacham.. I may go through there on my way up to the Whites.

Thanks, ixl. That clinches it for me. I think I will head up through East Burke over to Stark, NH and circle back down through Crawford Notch and the Kancamangus Highway. Let's hope for as little rain as possible.

Tomorrow will be a bit dicey weather-wise. Good luck with it.

Have you done the 108/100 triangle yet? Nice color up there when I was around. Better than Burke IMO. --c

Now that I think about it, no I haven't. And, I saw good color on either side of the triangle (Smugglers Notch and Hazens Notch). Do you remember any particularly noteworthy photography locations from up there?
