Any guesses as to when peak will be in north/central VT?
Hey all,
Anyone have any guesses on the best time to hit peak in N/C Vt this year, given the late start? I am looking to start my annual photographic pilgrimage up north next week but am wondering if even then it might be too early.
I am most interested in when peak will be in the valleys and mid-elevations, NOT the mountaintops.
BTW the weather is supposed to remain warm until next Friday when we may finally get that overdue hard frost.

I don't think it will be great until after Columbus Day weekend.

WOW! That really is late. I had been planning doing south/central VT at that point. Guess I will have to adjust... --c

I'm still surprised by your comment pwt... amazing.
Maybe I will only come up after the weekend then and wait for the crowds to die down... but I guess I'll keep reading the board in the meantime. --c

Oops, I meant the week of Columbus Day. I was answering you from the rest area and was in a hurry to help a lost traveler.
Re: Any guesses as to when peak will be in north/central VT?
The week of Columbus Day *is* the week after Columbus Day weekend, isn't it?
Are you talking about the week of Oct 10-15?
Thanks pwt. --c

Re: Any guesses as to when peak will be in north/central VT?
I drove around the Kingdom yesterday and things are looking good. I predict peak foliage for next weekend north of Lyndonville and from route 16 east. I then dropped down to the Peacham/Groton area. Still early but next weekend should be nice but pre-peak. Because I'm working night shift this week I will be able to wander around routes 108, 109, 118,and 58 on my way to St.Albans. I'll post what I see in the next couple of days. North central Vt. may not be peak next weekend but it may be close enough. IXL; I found another road that may appeal to you. It's the Tampico Road in North Danville. As you come into North Danville from Danville you go around a sweeping left curve then you go around a 90% right curve. Right after that curve you go over a bridge. Right after the bridge you'll see a paved road on the left side coming down in an angle. This is the Tampico Road. You drive a short ways and then you go around a sharp left curve. The street signs are missing in this area but are all up after here. About half way to the Burroughs Road you go down a long hill to a short valley and then back up another long hill. The hillsides are all farm fields and offer very long views to the soiuth east and south west.

Hey, thanks a lot pwt... as usual.
When you say you think it will be near peak, again, do you mean the hilltops or the areas near roads where farms and other interesting photographic subjects are?
Did you take any photos? I can host them for you if you want to post them...
