Killington Color
Killington 360 Cam is showing some pretty good color near the parking lots
Re: Killington Color
Hi Wentworth, it's been a long time since you were on the foliage forum. Are you coming up to VT this fall? Looks like a great season is upon us! If I recall, you were the webcam alert king!
Re: Killington Color
My housing situation is stable right now, so I'll be able to do some foliage viewing this season. I'm planning on going to Mount Snow next week and Killington around October 1st. I'm going to do Skyline Drive with my son, probably the week of Columbus Day. I've never been up Mount Equinox for Fall foliage.
Re: Killington Color
I drove through Killington today on my way back from western PA. Mind you, i was only on Rt. 4 and it was around 1:30 - 2:30 in the afternoon with not too many clouds, so the lighting wasn't the best for foliage. That said, there is a little bit of color coming on the mountains, but it still has quite a ways to go. Most of the color I saw looked to be a bit muted, russet type color. However, that could have been lighting conditions, too. I left to go to PA on Sept. 12th and returned today. I can tell you that all through NY and a bit in PA were trees going from green to brown or a bit yellow to brown. I don't know if they've been having a lot of drought this year maybe. I also saw that in Woodstock and Quechee. Again, I was only along Rt 4. All the swamp maples are turned and they are bright. I saw some in Fort Ann NY, not far from the VT border that were already turned on Sept. 12. I'm in Lebanon, and we are supposed to have highs in the 60s this week, so perfect fall weather. I imagine VT will be around the same, so by the end of the week, I'm hoping we'll see some more color pop-out.
PA was kind of weird. Mostly it was green or the aforementioned green-brown but then I saw whole trees already turned. Back in my home town there, there was a row of 5 maples along the street. 4 of them were completely green and one of them in the middle was completely turned bright red. I could never get a pic of it as every time I happened by there was a car parked there or I didn't have my camera with me or it was too windy, etc. I think that would have been a cool shot having the red peek out between the green. Oh well, better luck next time!

Re: Killington Color
My son is in Western Maine with his girlfriend for there anniversary. That part of Maine is approaching peak foliage.

Re: Killington Color
Yeah, Jeff Folger posted that it was looking good around Rangeley right now. Well, that was over the weekend. About a week early for that area. Usually Oct. 4 - 6 is peak. I have to figure out where to go for good color this weekend. I was just went up through Bradford, VT and over to North Haverhill. A few trees were turned in Bradford, but the hills are still very early. There was a spot of early color just before the Thetford exit on Rt. 91, but still early yet.
Re: Killington Color
Actually, peak last year was Late September. I was supposed to go up with my son, but a rain/wind storm ruined the foliage. They are in moderate drought in Western Maine, similar to last year. I think the drought is making peak early this year and last. Northern Vermont is also in drought. Here in Northern Connecticut, Summer was extremely wet with 15-30" of rain and flooding.
Re: Killington Color
Trying to decide if I should go to Killington tomorrow or wait a few days. I was up last year on October 1st and it was peak. This year looks behind peak by a few days.
Re: Killington Color
The plan right now is to head up to Killington mid-week next week depending on the weather. Killington foliage only looks about 20-30% changed.
Re: Killington Color
I'm heading up to Killington on Thursday. The weather looks ideal.
