Central/Southern Vermont 10-1-20

I did another trip to Vermont today, to see how the foliage survived the rain. Routes traveled today where I-91, Route 30, Windham Hill Road, Route 121, Route 11, Route 100, East Mountain Road, Route 4 and Route 12 back to I-91. Honestly, the best foliage color was found at Killington and route 4 between the Killington Access Road and Route 4/100. Everything else was not pretty. The main reason I went to Killington was how pretty it looked on the webcams.

Killington was a drop of color in a sea of drabness. I went back to 1-91 via Route 4 through Woodstock and it's not recommended. The rain removed about 25 - 40% of the foliage, mostly the early turning and colorful type. I was pleasantly surprised by how pretty Killington is all things considered.

300 miles of driving yesterday, without getting out of the car. I was worn out after getting home.

Crap.

Thanks for the update!

But, also, crap.

Looks like I will be focusing on smaller shots next week and no grand vistas.

Hi Loafer,
I think if you went just a little bit south you would've been better! I came up 91 to Rt 9W and it was decent. 9W was good to Haystack Mtn in Wilmington. Great colors up the mountain trail. Back down, then out to Bennington on 9. Good color, not really vibrant, but good viewing. Up US7 was spotty, then turned of to Kelley Stand Rd. Excellent stuff most of the way, but past peak in the higher areas. 100 S through Dover into Wilmington was meh, and then Rt 8 back into Ma was a lotta green. Another week for that!

I did that area last weekend, I go to Killington every Fall, so I wanted to check it out. The Stratton area looks good on the webcams, but I didn't have the time. I'm done with Vermont. I'm going to be looking for color in Massachusetts and Connecticut for the rest of October.

I went to the White Mountains yesterday and have a similar story. The only mountains that still looked decent were Mt. Washington & Cannon Mountain. Crawford Notch was still decent color. Most of the rest had quite a bit of leaf drop or turned brown. I tried Campton, NH, too, but the mountains/hills there were mostly green with swaths of brown. I guess those were the trees that had turned early. All in a all a disappointing day. I was going to try VT again tomorrow, but not sure where to go.

If anyone goes to MA, do post what you are seeing there. I was thinking about it for next weekend. I don't know if they are turning there early too or not.

Alot of the early color here in Enfield, turned brown after the rain. It's still about 85% green, so hopefully the color will return. That's how Vermont was yesterday outside of killington. I travel a lot in Massachusetts for foliage, I'll keep all updated.

MinnieB,
The Mohawk Trail from North Adams through Greenfield was 50% turned at the most advanced areas, mostly still green in many other areas on Friday.

Webcams from Berkshire East, this is a ski area located in Charlemont, Massachusetts, right on Route 2.
