Re: Next Year coming 5 days before Columbus Day
I don't know if it's too far (it's probably at least a two-and-a-half hour drive), but I just got back from Lake Winnipesaukee and the foliage was spectacular. The color was at maybe 50-60%, so it should be peaking by this weekend. Plus, if you take Rt. 2 over to 93 South, you'll go through Franconi...

A good restaurant in the St. Johnsbury area?
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a good place to eat in the St. Johnsbury area--could also be Danville, Hardwick, Lyndonville, Lower Waterford, etc. We'll be needing a good place to eat Saturday night. Not looking for anything dressy, but also not a total greasy spoon--unless, o...

I would also love a report if anyone knows the conditions. I'll be going up this weekend and was hoping to do Hazen's Notch since I'll be in the area. Thanks.

Re: Route 100 vs. Route 30?
Thanks for the replies, everyone!
Route 30 it is. I'm a road enthusiast, so I plan on covering a lot of ground this weekend (that is, if my girlfriend doesn't make me get out and walk around too much!) I'll put up a post Sunday night detailing where I thought the best color was. Thanks again.

Route 100 vs. Route 30?
Hi everyone, This weekend my girlfriend and I are heading up. We're going to spend Friday in northern Vermont, then on Saturday we're going to head south from Burlington to the Berkshires. I've done this on both Route 100 and Route 30 in the past and loved them both, but I was wondering if anyone co...

Re: Foilage Report : October 9
What's going on up there? I'm not going up until Friday, but the Island Pond webcam looks like peak. It certainly doesn't look bare. Did the rain knock off all the leaves in Groton State Forest? This would be helpful to know so I can avoid Groton, but did you go to Peacham? I heard Peacham was still...

Re: Getting worried for Oct 14-18 trip
You shouldn't be late at all. Hike up to the top of Mt. Monadnock for some amazing views. You've picked good dates, and I think that over that weekend in New England you'll never be more than an hour away from spectacular foliage. Last year I was in Nashua and Manchester for several days right aroun...

Re: Should I delay trip from 10/5 to 10/13?
If it isn't too much trouble, the later dates would give you more leverage. You could have the run of the state and you wouldn't have to stick to the northern tier, like you would if you went up on Wednesday. On the other hand, Vermont is always beautiful, whether it's peak color or a little early. ...

Re: How Long Does Fall Foliage Last?
I would estimate that to get from the point where it's "early, but good" to the point where it's "late, but still good" probably takes about two weeks. Or two weeks and a few days. And to answer your question with another question for the experts, if the weather stays warm will color change be delay...

Here are links to two articles from the Burlington Free Press saying the same thing.
