Hiking is available in all the state parks and the Green Mountain National Forest. Stick to Rte. 100, and you'll drive through a lot of national forest access, and the Ranger Station in Rochester has tons of information. Hope you have a great trip!
Susanne

Re: Best fall tour from albany to vermont
Vandana,
Anywhere from southern Vermont to Rte. 4 will be in good color this weekend. If you're in Albany, I'd take Rte. 7 over to Rte. 9 in Vermont to Bennington, then take Rte. 7A north, winding through the villages and towns to Manchester. Manchester may be a little crowded, so head over Rte....

Hari,
Now the weather report is even better for the weekend, no showers until at least Tuesday. Take one of the unpaved roads out of Arlington to Kelly Stand...you'll come to the Long Trail (footpath in the wilderness) that runs north-south from Massachusetts to Canada along the spine of the Gree...

Re: Best driving route
If you do Rte. 7, be sure to switch over to Rte. 7A in Vermont, it's a better touring route, not like an interstate, and you see more towns and such.
I was just on Rte. 100 in southern Vermont, and I think I'd recommend that route. I'm pretty sure Rte. 9 is Exit 2 of I-91, and that way you can sto...

Re: Oct 6 or Oct 20?
Hi, I think color will still be great by October 20 in Southern Vermont...Reason?
I was in Manchester yesterday, and I am certain you will still have wonderful colors around Oct. 19 -20. They are at about 25 percent of peak color now, so I predict that in two weeks they will still have a superior ...

Re: Too late for the foliage , oct 15 -18?
If you'll be on I-91, I recommend taking it north into Vermont, at that time of October, southern Vermont will have the best color. You could take Exit 2 at Brattleboro and go across Rte. 9 to Bennington. Wilmington is on the way and has some nice inns. You'll cross the Long Trail on Rte. 9, which i...

Re: Too late for the foliage , oct 15 -18?
If you're heading to Southern Vermont, you should still see some good color. Is this possible for you? I've written some suggested trips on this forum, if the southern part of the state is an option, I'll pull those up and repeat them here. Susanne

Re: Quick Foliage Update and nice tour
Thanks for that update, Daniel! We were in the NE Kingdom this weekend and saw some of that great color you mentioned. Mad River Valley coming up Oct. 5. We're getting some interesting color in Woodstock and Quechee, too. The foresters say it's one of the best years in recent memory. Thanks!
Susa...
