Re: Foliage is getting started early this year
Hi Loafer I just watched a youtube video series of an Appalachian Trail hiker who was in Rangeley a few days ago (perhaps 09-28?). The colors on the trail are starting to look really nice, but there seems the peak has not arrived. If you're interested, here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Update: Vermont Life - Autumn 1985 Highlights include: A Country Editor's Calling: You CAN Go Home Again Since I was once a "journalist", I found this one interesting. A man returns to his hometown to buy and run a weekly newspaper "White River Valley Herald". Autumn Mists A scenic portfolio showin...

Re: Fall Foliage and Vermont Life Magazine
Update: Vermont Life - Autumn 1984 and 1985. (I no longer have the editions for 1979-1983, so am skipping forward to 1984 and on...) Highlights from the 1984 edition include: - The Road to Lake Memphremagog: I've always enjoyed this story, which tells about an old stagecoach road that once existed ...

Re: Foliage is getting started early this year
Hi. I saw you mentioned Newport, VT. As I was re-reading the Autumn, 1984 edition of Vermont Life, I came across an article that mentions "Lake Memphremagog". It is an excellent article with pictures that discusses research and traveling on/around an old stagecoach road that ran from Montpelier to D...

Hi CT.
Yes, I'd heard that Jeanette had passed some years ago, and the store was currently not open.
Sad to see that family not involved with that store.
Hex - Were you familiar with this store?
God Bless...

Re: A Glorious Fall Preview in New England this Labor Day Weekend!
Hi Hex. I found the Vermont Life edition that had the article about Averill. It is Autumn, 1978. I've always enjoyed reading this each year when I re-read the Autumn editions and enjoy the Fall pictures. It is about the Lake View Store, as run by Jeanette Roy and her husband Victor. It appears they ...

Hi Andy and CT. Andy - Sounds nice. Thanks for the reply and sharing. That is a nice-looking camera! CT - I appreciate your kind comments. I too am hoping to at least make it thru Mass. As for CT blue trail hiking, some background and trails hiked. I arrived at the sub base in Groton in September, 1...

Re: A Glorious Fall Preview in New England this Labor Day Weekend!
Hi CT.
RE: NW Connecticut.
I was stationed at the sub base in sw CT in the early 70's.
I hiked most of the blue trails in that area.
I twice went up to NW CT in the Salisbury area and hiked to the top of Bear Mountain.
A very scenic place.
Glad to hear some color is showing up there.
God Bless...

Re: A Glorious Fall Preview in New England this Labor Day Weekend!
Hi Hex. Enjoyed your report from the Averill area. If you read my post on "Fall Foliage and Vermont Life", I mention I'm reading my old Autumn editions of the magazine. I do this each year at this time. In one of them, there's an article about a woman who ran a general store in Averill. When I get t...

Re: Fall Foliage and Vermont Life Magazine - Now Gone
Hi CT. I appreciate your comments. RE: Magazine No Longer Published Yes - I read that it had been experiencing a financial loss for several years, and the state legislature stopped funding it (even though they had sold advertising!). I'm just glad that someone archived the magazines (with a few miss...
