Re: we luv vermont
One nice thing about Vermont is that change happens so slowly here, and will continue to do so for the forseeable future.
Our adopted home has an organic beauty that has groown iover the last two and a half centuries, and can never be reproduced by corporate "imagineering". Small town life in Amer...

Ah yes cheese...
In addition to Grafton mentioned above which is excellent, check out Crowley Cheese in Mount holly. To qet there just stay on 103 and go about three miles past the Rte 100 turn just north of Ludlow. They make an unpasteurized cheddar that is absolutely divine.
grafton and Crowle...

In fact ...

There's an old saying here in Vermont, "if you don't like the weather, wait an hour." It really does seem to be the way things work out here.
As for the weather channel, If only i had a buck for every time they were wrong with their forcasts up here...
If you plan on taking pictures, the overcas...

Re: How long does "peak" last?
Hi,
Speaking as a local, peak is somewhat ephemeral. One side of a ridge may be blazing orange while the other side is still green or even grey because the leaves have fallen.
We have soft maples behind us that arre already beginning to lose leaveas and sugar maples that are just starting to r...

Re: Trip report Oct 3 - 6
Thank you for the eyewitness account. Its refreshing after all of the "foliage reports indicate" type prognosticating.
Too many seem to be relying on weather channels and sites. There is no reason to expect them to be any better at predicting foliage conditions which are weather dependant than the...

Re: How would these drives be??
This time of year and with the drought we have had there shouldn't be a problem with roads being flooded. Downed trees may present a problem after a windstorm. in some fire or logging roads. But they are usually clesred very quickly.
If you're used to off roading it you shouldn't have any problem....

Hi Suz,
One of the best things about travelling to Vermont is theere is no "the usual". Admittedly some villages are much nicer than others, noteably Grafton, newfane, and Chester in this area. Ther is a wide Varieto of terrain and scenery. If foliage is your quarry then The southern end of the s...

Here in Chester, 20 minutes east of Bromley the leaves are starting to turn nicely, I'll post some of today's pictures on our site later today Which i'l take after the rain stops and things clear up.
We have a hard frost advisory for tonight which should trigger more of the trees to turn.
