Re: Google Map of Vermont Scenic Locations

Hey Andy, Good to hear from you! Thanks for the tips. I hadn't heard of the Midland Trail -- I'll look that up. I'll be staying in Davis, WV, which is in the northeastern part of the state. Babcock State Park is on my list, but I'm guessing I won't make it that far south. I have 4 or 5 places marked...

Google Map of Vermont Scenic Locations

Hello all, It's been a while since I posted on this forum. I won't be in Vt this year -- I'll be taking a foliage trip to West Virginia instead. But it got me thinking of this project I worked on several years ago, and I thought of a new way to share it. I made a list of gps coordinates about 175 Ve...

Ricker Pond at Groton State Forest

I made a quick trip to Vermont this weekend and camped at Ricker Pond campground in Groton State Forest. The colors there are fantastic right now. Lots of reds. For fellow photographers, I wanted to share a potentially very nice and easily accessible sunrise spot. It's a little peninsula on the sout...

Re: This post is for kcflanders Kevin: info on trailhead

I made it to Nichols Ledge for the first time on Friday. I came a different route, heading south from Hardwick (Mackville Rd to Nichols Pond Rd). While the road is a little rough, I made it through just fine in my low clearance Honda Fit. Just take it slow and it's not a problem. The hike itself is ...

Re: Suggestions for Wednesday (10/1)? Map of where I have be

The Rt 2 area west of Lyndonville looks a bit lonely on your map. Some ideas: 1) Shadow Lake, Concord. There's a great viewpoint from Shadow Lake Road, about a 5 minute drive from Rt 2. 2) Kirby Mountain Road, north of Rt 2. Some really nice long views to the west overlooking farms and mountains. A ...

Re: Return trip planned for 10/2-10/5. Will we be too late?

I think it's unlikely you will be too late especially as far south as you're staying. You made a good decision to stay near route 91 as it will enable you to go easily head north if you need to. In a normal year, I think you'd want to spend most of your time north of Springfield. The Rt 2 area is of...

Great shots Oren! I really like the one of the rundown home. (Apologies if that's anybody's home on here. )

Re: A Tribute to George Camp: The Loss of a Special SOV Memb

I'm very sad to hear of George's passing. I only met him once, on the day that Carol noted above. That was truly a great day and George was a major reason for it. He had such a humble, humorous, and friendly way about him that was very disarming. I'll never forget when I left that day, as I drove of...

Andy,
Really impressive color. Is that a good year or typical for the UP? That second shot is great. What a view.

Re: 2012 Foliage slideshow

Hey abby, Great shots, as always! Despite the bad weather, looks like the foliage made it worthwhile. I really like #20 (Heavenly), #51 (Brown Beauty), and #58 (Leaf on a log). My favorite though is #49 (Sheffield Morning). Great shot of a beautiful farm! Love the light hitting the foliage. Just a p...

Re: VT is BEAUTIFUL, but...

Hey Andy, unfortunately I won't make it up this year. Those shots are re-runs from 2009. :D I'm definitely kicking myself for not making it up this year. New job, moving to a new state (Maryland), and kids all conspired to keep me out of VT this year. I'm thinking about swinging over to West Virgini...

Re: VT is BEAUTIFUL, but...

I always get discouraged if it's dreary during peak foliage, which has been often the past few years. BUT it really is true that you can get great foliage photos in overcast weather. And a little post-rain fog can really help too. It might not look great to the eye, but cameras do better with soft l...

Beautiful shot. Amazing color! The last two years it certainly didn't look like that! Where there was strong color, there was a lot of leaf drop.

I'm very jealous of not being able to come to VT this year. Take some extra shots for me, abby. That last photo is incredible.

Re: Mapping Out Locations - Can Anyone Help?

A couple years ago, when I had a lot more time on my hands than I do now, I found GPS coordinates for a bunch of roads/locations recommended on this forum. Hope this helps! http://www.pbpub.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?p=11766 Got my Jimapco and spent 3 hours last night with pages and pages of printed i...
