Re: Brattleboro vs. White River Junction for base camp

One other thing, Snowboarder. I'll actually be staying with a relative on Long Island. Do you think using that as my base camp and doing day trips to see the folliage and scenery is doable or is it better to spend a couple nights somewhere else?

Brattleboro vs. White River Junction for base camp

Hello,

I made a tentative reservation at a motel in Brattleboro and one at White River Junction for Oct. 9 & 10th. Which of these two would make a better base camp for hunting down fall foliage? Or is it better to base myself somewhere south of Vermont? Thank you again. Nancy

Re: Bucket List Help Needed

Really? Oh no! I'm broken hearted! :( OK, Vermont will be next year then. But I will take your suggestion and explore the Taconic Parkway. Is there any other places you'd recommend for fall foliage and scenery? I have a whole week!

Bucket List Help Needed

Good morning from Los Angeles! I'll be staying with a relative on Long Island from Oct. 8 - Oct 15 and during that time, I'd like to at least step foot into Vermont to see fall foliage and scenery which has been on my bucket list for the last 50 years! I'm planning on driving to Vermont on Thursday,...

Re: So Many Routes, So Little Time

Thank you abby and pwt54 for the information and for you reassuring words. I'm all packed and ready to go. After four years in a row of having to cancel this trip, this time it's really happening (fourth time's the charm?)! I'm so excited! If you don't mind, I may have questions for you once we arri...

So Many Routes, So Little Time

Hello, It's me again. Six more days until I begin Nancy & Hubby's Big Adventure in Vermont (Oct. 5 - Oct. 10 White River Junction base). I like to be prepared and so I'm reading my Moon Vermont travel book and all the recommended foliage routes on this forum plus routes recommended on several other ...

Re: Have the trees and leaves survived?

Hello everyone! My Oct. 5th trip to Vermont is still on (despite some earlier worries)! I've been following this forum every day, along with a few others I found on line. I have everything prepared: hotel, car, air. The only thing I don't have prepared are driving route plans. I see that there are l...

Re: Have the trees and leaves survived?

OK, I'm a little worried now. Although you all have assured me that the trees and leaves have survived, I just found a map in the Vermont Agency of Transportation Travel Information site that shows that there are 23 road closures and 20 road work areas in Vermont. Plus I read that most of the covere...

Re: Have the trees and leaves survived?

Thank you all for your suggestions! I've decided to do the sensible thing (and the considerate thing for my driver/husband) and take Abby & Ctyanky's advice to spend the first night close to Boston. In what section or town do you recommend we stay? I think it should be on the route towards Vermont b...

Re: Have the trees and leaves survived?

OK, you talked me into it! I just bought my plane tickets: L.A. to Boston for Oct 4 - Oct. 12. Next question: We'll be landing in Boston at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and renting a car. I did make reservations at a hotel in White River Junction for the entire time, but I'm concerned about the first night. Do...

Have the trees and leaves survived?

Hello, I was very saddened to hear about the catastrophic hurricane that devastated Vermont and its residents last month. I have tentative plans to make my first visit to Vermont during the first two weeks of October this year in order to see fall foliage. But I'd like to know if the storm knocked d...

Thank you!

Thanks to all of you for your speedy replies to my question! Looks like most of you agree with my idea of having one base from which to explore Vermont Oct. 4 - Oct. 13. Now I'm ready to made reservations. I'm planning to fly into Boston (from Los Angeles). Good idea or not? As I said, I'm planning ...

Best base to use for exploring Fall Foliage in October

Hello, I'm planning my first-time-ever trip to New England. Naturally, I want to see fall foliage. I have tentative plans for October 4 - October 13. I would prefer to stay in one location and do day trips from that spot, so I found the Super 8 Motel at White River Junction, which has prices I can a...
