Top of Lincoln Gao
Hi! Since I have not done this hike myself, I should just say that this is from a lot of reading and talking to people. From the top of Lincoln Gap, you can take the Long Trail in either direction (as at the top of each of the Grn Mt. gaps...not Roxbury, but App, Lincoln, and Middlebury). If you go ...

Re: from worcester, ma one day
Agree with Chessie about getting up to VT. I might propose an another alternative! Instead of going east to catch 93 and 89 from Concord, NH (as per pwt), take 190 N to 2 W to I-91 N into VT. Proceed along the Connecticut River Valley (may be a bit earlier in color than the Sunapee region of NH alon...

Re: 9-11 October Best places
Hi, In addition to what pwt has said, you may find that getting a room for one night in one place and one in another will be difficult due to the fact that many hotels and inns have 2 night minimums during holiday weekends. I would agree to locate yourself centrally (even if it means driving after d...

Re: Another milestone for pwt54
Yup...Dairy Creme closes Sept. 10. I always wish they would stay open through foliage too, so that others could enjoy a great summer treat. However, I think most of their staff is kids out of school for the summer, so it becomes impossible to run once mid-Septemeber hits. I have tried the maple cree...

Another milestone for pwt54
He just crossed over the 1000-post mark. Congratulations!! :) Thanks! Daniel P.S. You are at the Georgia rest area now? You were at the Montpelier Visitor Center a couple of years back, right? I just got my Dairy Creme, Montpelier T-shirt (the best creemees I know) last week. Have you been there? Ho...

Re: Maple syrup
Btw if it gets mold, all you need to do is boil and skim. The syrup will still be perfectly fine.

Re: Smuggler's Notch
Brief description from my vantage point... App Gap: very twisty on the west side...steep too. Very well-maintained road...paved and passable all year. Nice parking area at top with decent vista. Lincoln Gap: I've only been on east side...very narrow and sharp turns. Quite wooded...pretty (canopied),...

Re: Where in Vermont is this fall?
This is certainly true, but if you think the peak of fall is somewhat unpredictable, the few days surrounding leaf-out in the spring are even harder to nail down in advance. However, if you can day trip (or go on short notice), you are probably fine. That being said, if you are looking for just a fa...

Re: Smuggler's Notch
24Vermont, Not sure about hiking maps. May be worth a Google search. The Green Mountain National Forest people should have some info as well as the Green Mountain Club. I know there are hiking books for Vermont which are usually available in local bookstores, etc. As far as I know, you just walk up ...

Re: Smuggler's Notch
Agreed with all above. Sharan, I think this is a drive not to be missed. Not terribly steep, just windy. Park at the top of the Notch and take in the sites as well as a popular hike to Sterling Pond (haven't done it myself, but I hear it is great). Didn't we get you to drive up Roxbury Gap a couple ...

Re: Save my marriage - Oct. 10-12 advice
I would agree with bm. At that point you'd like to be Route 4 and south of there. Unfortunately, it is not my strongsuit for routes and lodging recommendations. I have more knowledge in the northern half of the state. At this point, it is kind of late...but not too late. Try some of the ski areas fo...

Re: Early Color Report
PWT,
I actually tried looking for you a couple of weeks ago on my way out at the Montpelier Visitor Center. You still work there? I'm sure we'll cross paths eventually...not sure whether I am going to make it up to Vt. this foliage season.

Hmmm...maple creemees...they have very good ones over there at Bragg. Got a chance to do sugar on snow there again this past March...what a great treat!
