They are saying the great north woods is at/ or slightly past peak, with the white mountains near peak. Hope that helps

My suggestion would be the center around Bellow Falls and the Green Mountain Railroad. They run Passenger service, but also NECR (New England CEntral) runs freight trains. I was on a foliage trip yesterday (sept 28) through both NH and VT. The best colors I saw were along the Kanc (NH 112) from Conway to lincoln. most was at or near peak. abover 3500 ft or so the leaves were stripped. the best foliage appears to be at elevations around 2000-3500 feet.
